Joker Novel Too Serious

I just got finished reading the "Joker" graphic novel written by Brian Azzarello and art by Lee Bermejo. My initial reaction is this is a very well written read. I'm inclined to think that the continuity of this novel takes place in some sort of comic book version of the recent Batman movies universe.

The Joker in this novel looks like the movie version of the character with the scars and everything. Also the other villains like the Penguin, the Riddler and Killer Croc have their looks tweaked to be more realistic than their traditional comic versions.

One of the best things about "Joker" is how realistically everything is presented. It actually reads like a mafia movie. I'm actually usually not into the crime novel type of comics, but this book pulls it off excellently. From the writing to the gritty art, I would suggest this book for anyone who is a fan of The Joker.

Here's an interview about the novel with the writer, Brian Azzarello.
